Big Bass Power That Fits Right Under Your Seat
The Rockford Fosgate PS-8 Amplified Under Seat Subwoofer is proof that you do not need a huge box to get serious low-end performance. It packs an 8-inch high-output woofer, a 150-watt RMS Class-D amplifier, and a cast aluminum enclosure into a compact design that slides neatly under your seat. Everything is engineered as a closed-loop system, meaning the woofer, amp, and enclosure are tuned together for tight, efficient bass that stays clean and controlled even in smaller cabin spaces.
Precision-Tuned Performance Built for Real Listening
What makes this compact sub stand out is how dialed in it is from the inside out. The driver is Klippel verified, which means it is laser-measured and optimized for motor strength, coil alignment, and suspension behavior to reduce distortion and improve accuracy. It also follows CEA-2031 and CEA-2006 standards, giving you honest, consistent power ratings you can actually trust when matching your system. With 150W RMS output from a high-efficiency Class-D amp, you get strong bass without overheating or losing clarity.
Easy Install Control and Bass You Can Fine Tune Anytime
The PS-8 keeps installation simple with a quick disconnect terminal that supports up to 12-gauge wiring, making it easy to install or remove when you need space. It accepts both RCA and speaker-level inputs with flexible switching, so it works smoothly with factory or aftermarket systems. Smart auto turn-on modes like REM, DC offset, and signal sensing handle power-up automatically, while the adjustable low-pass crossover from 50Hz to 120Hz and Punch EQ boost up to +12dB at 45Hz let you shape your bass exactly how you like it. Add in built-in protection against heat, shorts, and reverse polarity plus a wired remote level controller, and you get compact bass that is powerful, safe, and always under your control.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
- • Why does my PS-8 fit under the seat but still vibrate against it?
The PS-8's compact design makes under-seat installation possible, but tight clearances can cause the enclosure or surrounding trim to vibrate. Owners have specifically mentioned vibration as an issue, so leaving adequate clearance and securing the enclosure firmly can help.
- • Why did my PS-8 suddenly stop working after only a short time?
There are user reports of PS-8 units failing after relatively little use, including one owner who reported the unit stopped working after about 18 months and another who said theirs quit within roughly a month. These are individual reports rather than evidence of a universal failure rate, but they are worth considering when evaluating long-term reliability.
- • Why isn't the bass as powerful as I expected from a Rockford Fosgate subwoofer?
The PS-8 is an 8-inch compact powered subwoofer, designed primarily to add low-end impact without taking up much room. Some owners praise its clean punch, while others expected considerably stronger bass and felt that larger conventional subwoofers performed better.
- • Why does my PS-8 have power but produce no sound?
If the power indicator is on but there is no bass, check the signal input, speaker connections, gain/level control, and turn-on method. Rockford's troubleshooting procedure specifically starts by checking amplifier connections and then verifying the signal path when the unit powers up but does not produce audio.
- • Why am I getting static or noise through the PS-8?
Poor signal routing can introduce electrical interference. Rockford recommends keeping RCA cables separated from amplifier power cables and other high-current electrical accessories, while also protecting wiring where it passes through metal panels.
- • Why does my PS-8 turn on inconsistently with the factory stereo?
The PS-8 supports several amplifier turn-on methods, including switched +12V, DC offset, and audio sensing. If automatic activation behaves unpredictably, the selected turn-on method and the factory radio's signal should be checked.
- • Why does the PS-8 sound different depending on where I install it?
Compact powered subwoofers can react strongly to their surroundings. One PS-8 owner found that moving the unit to a different vehicle location changed bass distribution, soundstage, standing-wave behavior, and even how much bass escaped outside the vehicle.
- • Why won't the PS-8 fit underneath my vehicle seat?
Although it is designed for compact installations, not every seat has enough usable clearance. Owners have encountered seats with batteries, storage compartments, heater ducts, uneven floors, or insufficient vertical space that prevent a clean under-seat installation.
- • Why do my power and ground connections feel loose?
One PS-8 owner specifically criticized the factory power and ground terminations and recommended checking them carefully before installation. A loose connection can create intermittent power or performance problems, so every terminal should be firmly secured and inspected.
- • Why does the PS-8 sound clean at moderate volume but struggle when pushed hard?
The compact enclosure is intended to provide added bass rather than compete with large high-power subwoofer systems. User reports generally praise its clean low-end response, while some critical feedback notes that its output can fall short of expectations at higher levels.

Tried out this powered sub to my Camry. Fantastic design. Surely compact but its powerful enough to be heard as its lows complements the mids and highs impressively. It also got some EQ knobs, which makes it easy to tune out the bass and get the best sound oout of it.

Placed it below the seat and it fits perfectly. It does not take too much space which is surprising knowing that I’m used with much larger car subs before. I don’t have to sacrifice in power with the sub. My Tacoma is full of lows now with the sub.
